How to maintain silver dishes?

How to maintain silver dishes?

When you are given a silver cup or jug, you put it in a special place and use it with care. You want to keep it looking as shiny as it was in the beginning forever. But, caught up in everyday life and your duties, you often forget about it and its initial shine gradually begins to fade. Silver tarnishes and dirt gathers on the edges. Your beautiful cup turns into an unsightly old thing.

What should you do?

Bring back the shine to your silverware by applying these 4 tips.

It is important to note that every silver item purchased from us is of 950 fineness. This means that you own very high-grade silver, also known as Britannia standard=958/1000. In this form, it has a wide range of useful functions. You could have a look at: ‘The miraculous properties of silver in the fight against viruses’

  • Wash dishes after each use. Imagine how your crystal glasses would look if you put them away unwashed after use. The same goes for silverware. They should be washed regularly.
  • Wash them by hand, not in the dishwasher. Tablets and powders contain components that react with silver. As a result, silver items get covered in dark spots and cleaning is very difficult, almost impossible. Wash silverware by hand with a sponge and soap, under running water. Do not use aggressive detergents and do not rub them with abrasive or sharp objects. This will damage their appearance.
  • Dry them with a soft cloth to avoid stains.
  • Clean the silver once a week – this is a must when silverware is used regularly. Prepare two towels: a smaller and thinner one and a cotton or woollen one. Use Starwax silver cleaner, sold at Mr Bricolage (in Bulgaria), or another suitable paste.

Put a small amount of it on the smaller cloth. Spread the contents well on the cup or the item that you want to clean. Leave it for a minute to work and then rub the surface intensively with the woollen cloth until the mixture disappears. Wash the bowl with warm soapy water and dry it. If necessary, repeat the operation until the silver is completely cleaned. You will see the effect immediately - the silver starts to shine.

If you don't have a special silver cleaner on hand, try Grandma's recipe - baking soda or toothpaste. Soda has a coarser structure and can mattify the product, while toothpaste is gentler. The cleaning method is similar to the one described above. The method gives relatively good results, but the surface of the vessel becomes more matte. This option is suitable for the everyday cup and cup.

Why should your silverware be clean?

With regular use of the dish in which you hold water, wine or other liquid, minerals, sugar and other substances that are contained in it are deposited on its walls. They stick to the inner surface and prevent the silver ions contained in the precious metal from attacking and destroying viruses and bacteria, thus helping you fight disease. The beneficial properties of silver and its healing abilities are known. Therefore, the dish must be kept clean.

We recommend regular washing and cleaning of the silverware.

The stories of old, noble families whose tableware consisted mainly of silver are well-known. They had a special day of the week when the servants took out and cleaned all the silverware. And this was done not only to give them a beautiful appearance but also to protect family members from infections and diseases.

Most of the silverware we make is partially gold-plated. Unfortunately, after two or three years it fades and may eventually disappear. The reason is that the large amount of material, in this case, the silver, absorbs the small amount - the gold. This is a natural process and is called adhesion. When this happens, we can help by reapplying additional gold plating to the areas where it has disappeared.

And one last tip.

Wipe carefully the silverware you plan to give as a gift if you have previously touched it with your hands. There should be no finger marks left on it. Where you touched the item, the silver will darken. The noble material, which is of high sample purity, interacts with the alkaline levels of human skin and leaves dark spots. Therefore, before returning the dish back to the box, you must wipe it thoroughly, especially in the places where you touched it with your hand.

If you wish, we can take care of your items. Give us a call and we will not only restore the silverware, but we will also apply an additional gold coating. The fee for the service is negotiable. Thus, you will have your favourite cup or jug in its original state once again.

It is interesting and remarkable how much history and how many artifacts there are in a territory as small as Bulgaria. During each excavation, archaeologists find a piece of the life of our ancestors. We are a nation with a rich past, and that is priceless. All these discoveries made by archaeologists are changing scientists' perceptions of the oldest centers of human civilization. The historical artifacts prove that a civilization flourished on the territory of Bulgaria long before the Hellenic one. A culture existed which created items of high artistic value.
